The best resources you can search are the wiki and the discord server. Below are some of the best places to look when you first get started!

Let’s start with the absolute basics:

The best place to train? The training dojo. It grants the most exp. The ideal Pokemon to use here would be a fighting type Pokemon with a physical fighting move.

Best place for money? You’re going to want to visit the mines, when you run out of tools then battling will be your friend until you have more.

Best place for reps? At the very beginning your best sources of reps by far will be catching Pokemon and team quests. Don’t rush into a team though, as this currently can’t be changed later.

What should I be doing when I start? You may want to visit the gyms to start your journey and get some badges. When you complete all the gyms (no need to beat the Galar ones), you’ll also unlock legendary Pokemon on the maps! Remember, anything found on the maps can be found in its snow variant, legendaries included!

I. Reps, ranks and links

Ia. Reps, or Reputation is what’s needed to increase your rank, and rarely some items in shops require a small amount of reps to purchase them. Reps can be earned in several ways, including battling and catching wild Pokemon.

Ib. Ranks are earned by earning a certain amount of reputation. At the start of your Journey you’ll have a set amount of places you can see the links for in your dashboard, but after a few earned ranks you might see that there’s new things to be discovered, visit the Unlockables link to see what kind of things you may have to look forward to. Each time you rank up, you’ll get some new benefits. This includes an increased catch rate and other things. If you’ve explored the hall of fame area you’ll notice that some of the requirements there are also rank based.

II. Exp and money

Check out the top of the guide for some quick tips. A lot of battles on pokegen may scale based on the highest level in your party. This includes the platinum dojo (requires platinum pass from the poke merchant). When you’re battling the platinum dojo, the higher your Pokemon level, the more exp you get!

III. Frequently asked questions

My master ball didn’t catch the Pokemon? Here on pokegen the master ball isn’t a 100% catch rate, most players tend to opt for the cheaper option of Ultra balls. Just remember catch rate changes based on your rank.

I just caught a high level Pokemon on the maps, but it’s level 5 in my box? This happens! Unfortunately you might have spent some time battling a level 350 Pokemon just for it to show in your box as level 5. This is just to provide a small challenge to newer players, eventually this level won’t be a challenge to you any more! How do I get shiny Pokemon? A lot of Pokemon can be ‘turned’ shiny in Pokegen. This does unfortunately exclude certain Pokemon such as legendaries for example. To shiny exchange a Pokemon you’ll need to obtain a certain amount of them, depending on their evolution stage. For example, you can exchange 30 normal Poochyena for a Shiny one, or 24 normal Mightyena for a shiny one. Some Pokemon however are firstly obtained via events or shops on the rpg.

My buddy Pokemon has a downwards arrow? When you first assign a buddy Pokemon you may notice a downwards arrow next to it in battle. This arrow means that your Pokemons stats are actually currently being lowered due to the low happiness it has. You can increase happiness via battling (up to 10 per day), or with berries (up to 3 times per day) earned from the daily trivia (Fun corner bottom right, Daily prize, test your knowledge) Pro tip: If you don’t know the answer to a question, most of them can be found on the rpg. Open a second tab to look around for your answer, or ask on discord! If you don’t have berries, and your battle count doesn’t give enough to make this Pokemon happy and remove that downward arrow, you can always temporarily make a random Pokemon your buddy, and come back to the one you want to increase the happiness of later. Don’t worry! Changing buddy Pokemon won’t remove the happiness on the one you’ve already increased for a few days. Trading the Pokemon however, will reset its happiness.
