When doing the Elemental Gyms, you need to use the type of that elemental (Grass Gym means you need a Grass type pokemon to beat).
Unova Elementals are:
Psychic - Fire - Normal - Water - Flying - Dragon - Poison - Grass
Required lvl around 1500 - 2200 (Higher always possible when difficulties)
